The outdoor unit is usually located in the back or side of the house and is where the heat inside the house is dispersed. It contains the compressor, the condenser coil and a fan. The heat absorbed from the air in your home is transferred to the refrigerant and then pumped to the outdoor unit. The evaporator coils are filled with a refrigerant that acts as a heat carrier.
It flows outward to the condensing unit. It is so called because it contains a condensing coil. Like the indoor unit, it also contains a fan and a fan motor. The fan blows outside air over the condensing coil, which expels heat to the outside air.
The indoor unit will normally be located inside a closet or in the basement. If you know where your oven is located, you should also know the location of the indoor unit. Inside, there will be a condenser coil with freon, which is a type of refrigerant, inside the case. This is what actually cools the air by drawing heat and moisture from the air inside the house, and sometimes you'll need an air conditioner maintenance appointment to replace the freon.
